Basic Speech Perception Test Module Basic module covers three commonly used open-set speech recognition test, including IEEE sentences, SPIN sentence recognition, & CNC word recognition. Basic module also have two testing groups. One is the speech recogntiion test in quiet and the other is speech recognition threshold, i.e. the signal-to-noise ratio that produced 50% of sentence recognition scores. The detailed description of each test is shown as follows.

IEEE Sentence Recognition Test: IEEE sentence materials consisted of 72 lists of sentences of moderate difficulty. Sentences were naturally produced (1 male and 1 female talker). East list has 10 sentences. During testing, a list should be randomly selected from among the 72 IEEE sentence lists, and a sentence was randomly selected (without replacement) from among the 10 sentences within the list and presented to the subject. The subject responded by repeating the sentence as accurately as possible and the experimenter scored all words correctly identified. Performance was scored in terms of the percent of words correctly identified in sentences. For speech recognition threshold test, the siganl-to-noise ratio was adaptively adjusted according to the listener’s response. SPIN Sentence Recognition Test: SPIN sentence materials consisted of 8 lists of sentences produced by 1 male talk. East list has 50 sentences. During testing, a list should be randomly selected from among the 8 SPIN sentence lists, and a sentence was randomly selected (without replacement) from among the 50 sentences within the list and presented to the subject. The subject responded by repeating the sentence as accurately as possible and the experimenter scored all words correctly identified. Performance was scored in terms of the percent of words correctly identified in sentences. For speech recognition threshold test, the siganl-to-noise ratio was adaptively adjusted according to the listener’s response. CNC Word Recognition Test: CNC word materials consisted of 10 lists of monosyllabic words by 1 male talk. East list has 50 words. During testing, a list should be randomly selected from among the 10 CNC word lists, and a sentence was randomly selected (without replacement) from among the 50 words within the list and presented to the subject. The subject responded by repeating the sentence as accurately as possible and the experimenter scored all words correctly identified. Performance was scored in terms of the percent of words correctly identified in sentences. For speech recognition threshold test, the siganl-to-noise ratio was adaptively adjusted according to the listener’s response.
